Non-Certified Police Officers- selected candidates will be assigned to the police academy for Basic Police Recruit Course training conducted at the Santa Fe College's Institute of Public Safety.  Our agency will pay the cost of the police academy (approx. $7,000), along with a non-certified salary (of $36,000 - $38,000).  The Police Academy is a 24-week course, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. During this program, officers learn criminal and constitutional law, firearms skills, patrol tactics, defensive driving, investigative techniques, domestic violence investigations, human diversity, and other related subjects.  After successful completion of the Basic Police Recruit Academy, non-certified police officers must successfully complete the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification test.  Upon passing the state test, the officer will be promoted to the certified police officer job classification (with a salary of $42,000 - $45,000), and assigned to a structured Field Training Program.

Out of StateCertified Police Officers- Equivalency is required.  The State of Florida has reciprocity regarding police certifications of local, county, state, military, or federal law enforcement agencies in the U.S.  A review of your agencies police academy training standards will determine if you are eligible to attend the "Equivalency of Training (EOT)" course (5-10 days long) to be certified in Florida.  Associated costs for this course will be paid by our agency. Upon passing the certification test, the candidate will be certified in Florida.

The Gainesville Police Department has police officer processes multiple times throughout the year and we would appreciate your assistance in advertising these job openings to your members.

We look forward to you joining our team.
