I had a food drive and gave the donated items to Westcare homeless shelter. I did this with the help of several people from my local community. Each person donated canned food, macaroni and cheese, and juice to the homeless shelter. They are located on 173 Redale Rd, Pikeville, KY 41501. Their phone number at the shelter is (606)432-9442. Prestonsburg Site Students- Volunteering at Riverview Health Center
Student’s from the EKU Prestonsburg Site decided to volunteer time at the Riverview Health Center in Prestonsburg, KY. Five students, which included Leslie Carrothers, Marissa Joseph, Madeline Ousley, Caleb Crouch, and Justin Rowe visited with the residents of the health center. While the first floor ate dinner at five p.m., we chatted with second floor residents. As the meals were being served to the second-floor residents, we went downstairs to the main floor. We were able to talk with some residents and handed out crossword pages. As we made our way to the front lobby we sat with residents, played games such as checkers, and tried our hand at crocheting. The residents and staff loved having us there and we were asked if we would like to come back to volunteer our time. We all agreed that this was an amazing opportunity to remind others how special they are. As a group we all decided to continue volunteering once a month.
