Criminal Justice - Bachelor’s Degree

-Why did you select Criminal Justice and/or Police Studies?

I selected Criminal Justice as my degree because I have always been fascinated with the field. I love everything about it! It’s a field that has so many wonderful career opportunities, and not only that but you get to work with and meet some amazing people.

-What career are you in, and how did your EKU degree help with that?

I am currently a Case Manager for the Whitley/McCreary County Drug Court Program. Having my degree in Criminal Justice, along with my experience as a Bailiff for the McCreary County District and Circuit Courts, helped me to obtain this job.  When I applied for the Case Manager position at the Drug Court there where 15 other applicants besides myself, and I truly believe that me having a Degree in Criminal Justice played a role in me being blessed with this wonderful job opportunity.

-What advice do you have for graduating students wanting to go into your field?

My advice to graduating students entering the Criminal Justice field is to start applying for jobs as soon as you can. The opportunities are there but they are not there for long. Do not wait to start applying!

-What advice or recommendations would you give prospective students considering EKU and Criminal Justice and/or Police Studies?

I attended two other colleges before attending EKU. I wished a thousand times over that I would have went with EKU from the beginning. It is a wonderful Program and the instructors are amazing at what they do. They are passionate about the Criminal Justice Field and that makes a world of difference when they are teaching it to their students! It is an amazing program and I can’t say enough good about it. I hope in the next year to begin working on my Master’s in Criminal Justice at EKU.
